Model limits: Each cast gives the spell’s base XP once plus 2 Magic XP per damage across all targets. Splashes on some targets, defensive casting, staff rune savings, Ancient sceptre effects and supplies other than runes are excluded. Rune counts are raw, before any staff or tome saves them.

To use the OSRS Bursting Calculator, enter your Magic level or XP, a target level, a burst or barrage spell, targets per cast, damage per target, casts per hour and rune cost, then read the casts, runes and cost.

OSRS Bursting Calculator Formula

The OSRS Bursting Calculator formula is XP per cast = base spell XP + 2 × targets × average damage per target.

XP per cast = base spell XP + 2 × targets × damage per target
Casts = ⌈Magic XP remaining ÷ XP per cast⌉
Hitpoints XP = casts × targets × damage × 1.33
Runes = casts × runes per cast

  • Ice Burst gives 40 base XP at level 70 and Ice Barrage gives 52 at level 94.
  • Burst and barrage spells hit up to 9 targets in a 3×3 area.
  • Every damage point gives 2 Magic XP and 1.33 Hitpoints XP.

How much XP does bursting give in OSRS?

Bursting gives the spell’s base XP once per cast plus 2 Magic XP per damage across every target hit. 5 targets at 8 damage with Ice Burst give 120 XP per cast.

What Magic level do you need to burst?

You need Magic level 62 for Smoke Burst and 70 for Ice Burst. Burst spells need the Ancient Magicks spellbook from Desert Treasure I.

How many targets can a burst spell hit?

A burst spell hits up to 9 targets in a 3×3 area around the main target, in multi-combat areas only.

Ice Burst or Ice Barrage: which is better?

Ice Barrage is better for XP, with 52 base XP and a 30 max hit, against 40 XP and a 22 max hit for Ice Burst. Ice Burst costs fewer gold pieces (GP) per cast.
