OSRS Melee Calculator Formula
The OSRS Melee Calculator formula is DPS = hit chance × average hit ÷ (attack speed × 0.6 seconds).
Effective Strength = ⌊Strength level⌋ + style bonus + 8
Max hit = ⌊0.5 + Effective Strength × (Strength bonus + 64) ÷ 640⌋
Attack roll = (Attack level + 8) × (attack bonus + 64)
Defence roll = (monster Defence + 9) × (defence bonus + 64)
Average hit = max hit ÷ 2 + 1 ÷ (max hit + 1)
- Max hit sets the highest damage of 1 attack.
- Hit chance compares the attack roll with the defence roll.
- Average hit counts a successful 0 as 1 damage.
- Attack speed turns average damage into damage per second, with 1 tick lasting 0.6 seconds (600 ms).
OSRS Melee Calculator FAQ
What does the OSRS Melee Calculator show?
The OSRS Melee Calculator shows your standard melee max hit, hit chance and damage per second against 1 monster. The result uses your levels, gear bonuses and attack speed.
Should I enter boosted levels in the OSRS Melee Calculator?
Yes, enter your visible boosted Attack and Strength levels. A super combat potion at 99 shows 118, and 118 is the level the calculator needs.
Which defence bonus do I use for a monster?
Use the monster’s defence bonus that matches your attack type: stab, slash or crush. A whip uses slash, so enter the monster’s slash defence.
Why is my melee DPS lower than my max hit suggests?
Melee DPS is lower than max hit: each successful hit rolls between 0 and your max hit, and some attacks miss. A max hit of 40 with 60% accuracy on a 4-tick weapon gives about 5 DPS.
